Resources

There are a number of materials which can be borrowed by all students

The Music Room contains a library of books about music as well as lots of sheet music and scores which can be borrowed from Claire. From Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians and books on Structure, Form and Counterpoint, to books about the flute (some of which are listed below):

"On Playing The Flute" Quantz (a valuable source of information about 18th century performance practices including embellishments which we do in lessons with our repeats in Baroque pieces)

"The Flute and Flute Playing" Boehm (written by the inventor of the modern flute)

"Taffanel, Genius of the Flute" (the career of the famous virtuoso flute player)

"How to Love Your Flute" (a guide to flutes and flute playing)

"Proper Flute Playing" Trevor Wye (a companion to the practice books)

"6o+ Things You Can Do With Flutes" Trevor Wye (a fun and interesting book of things you can try with other flute players as well as electronics you can add!)

"The Flute Book" Nancy Toff (full of info on the history of the flute, repertoire and techniques)

There are also CD's of flute music as well as opera, orchestral, avant garde to name but a few.

DVDs of operas, films about music/musicians as well as a large collection of musical theatre DVDs and scores;

Modern: Wicked, Avenue Q, The Producers, Rent, Chicago
Traditional: Sweet Charity, Rogers & Hammerstein classics (Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific), and many others!

There is a large collection of flute scores from all periods, study books and tutors, duets, trios, sight reading/scales/aurals (CDs & books) and many more, as well as music for piano, clarinet, saxophone, recorder and penny whistle. Just ask Claire if you want to have a look through!

Those of you who enjoy composing but who don't have score editing software are welcome to come and do your scores on my computer, as well as try your hand at producing and sequencing tracks and creating drum loops!
Software:
Sequencers: Cubase, Reason, Fruity Loops
Sampler: Halion
VST instruments: Yamaha CS80 synth, Absynth, Moog
Plug ins: Ohm Boyz (interesting delay and reverb software), Melodyne & Autotune (pitch correcting software)
